Veterinary Telecommunications dba Televet (“Information is the Key”) from 1986 to 1990 was started by Rolan Tripp, DVM, CABC who provided telephone consultations to local veterinarians on pet behavior issues. Susan Tripp, MS, CDBC, with a California Lifetime Teaching Credential taught the early puppy off-leash socialization, graduate, and honors classes in four Bay Area counties inside the Wellpet stores, distributing booklets by Dr. Ian Dunbar. Two trainers bought TeleVet in 1990.
The Tripps owned the La Mirada Animal Hospital from 1989 to 1999 when VCA bought it. Susan taught puppy classes in the lobby. The Tripps transformed the practice into “The Puppy Place” and “The Cookie Place.” Dr. Tripp wrote Pet Perception Management, a manual sold when he lectured at veterinary conferences.
Animal Behavior Network (ABN) from (2001 to present) provides clients of veterinary hospitals nationwide eCourses and an online library on puppy, dog, kitten, and cat behavior and training. In December 2007 with 75 ABN providers (veterinary, shelter, pet store, trainers) in 40 states and Canada, including 30 Banfield Charters, Scott Campbell DVM, founder of Banfield, offered the Tripps a contract to provide all Banfields with ABN eCourses and online Library education.
When Campbell left Banfield and the contract fell through, he added the Tripps to the Hannah the Pet Society Initial Operating Team for pet behavior and training. In 2018, Susan retired and Rolan went part-time, retiring in 2023. From 2018 to 2023, Dr. Tripp developed the Pet Happiness Network (PetHappiness.net), PetBehavior History.com, and PsyMedConsulting.com websites, leading to the 2025 launch of PetTelligence Software, the next generation of the proven ABN model. Dr. Tripp provided ABN Veterinary Behavior Consultations (and now provides teleconsults) for clients referred by attending veterinarians.
